The combined team of over 100 professionals has expertise in AI and learning technologies, instructional design, and education support.

Wambura Kimunyu, the CEO of Eneza Education and now the Chief Growth Officer of Knowledge Platform, notes: “We are thrilled to combine our experience in designing and delivering learning solutions in emerging markets. Over 3 billion young people live in emerging markets. For a prosperous, equitable, peaceful and green future, there is no greater imperative than to invest in the education of these young people.

Our merger unleashes tremendous energy. Eneza brings deep experience in serving the rapidly growing African market through B2C solutions, and Knowledge Platform brings depth in B2B and B2B2C solutions.

We have the passion, grit, track record and capacity to innovate across broad fronts at low price points. I believe we are uniquely poised to serve the massive youth bulge in East Africa, South Asia and South-East Asia.”

Mahboob Mahmood, the founder of Knowledge Platform, adds: “Eneza is Africa’s ace at building a large, sustained and monetized customer base at a very low cost, and I believe we are the emerging markets leader in gamified learning. The combination is compelling.

The future of learning involves both curricular and extra-curricular learning through formal and informal processes. Using learning games and competitions and adaptive learning systems, we help young people master curricular subjects, such as math, sciences and English, and, even more critically, largely extra-curricular 21st century skills in digital, climate and financial literacy, problem solving, and data science.”

Sajid Anjum, CTO, adds: “Our learning games and competitions are catching fire: a 21st century learning format especially suited for 21st century subjects. In this spirit, we have recently launched a global climate literacy competition for middle schools.

As we move deeper into this century, we expect that such impact-driven innovation will flow from emerging markets to global markets. I believe our combined team will contribute meaningfully to redefining learning in the 21st century.”

Knowledge Platform and Eneza were introduced by the telecoms association GSMA, which had provided innovation support to both ventures.

Reacting to the merger, Max Cuvellier Giacomelli, Head of GSMA Mobile for Development, stated: “We are thrilled about this collaboration. GSMA strongly believes in making an impact through partnerships, and we are pleased to see two GSMA Innovation Fund alumni start-ups collaborate across continents to launch this unique African Asian edtech venture, and continue to invest in education and learning solutions, and in doing so promoting digital inclusion.”

Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi the Chief Consumer Business Officer of Safaricom, added: “We have had a long and productive partnership with Eneza and have worked closely with the team to build “Shupavu 291” into the leading SMS revision platform for primary and secondary school students in Kenya. We look forward to working with the merged team to amplify gamified mobile and web-based learning across East Africa.”

The merged entities count among their partners and clients AFS Intercultural Programs, AKUEB, Aga Khan Education Services, Beaconhouse, The Citizens Foundation, GSMA, Jacobs Foundation, Jazz, LUMS, Marshall Cavendish, McDonalds, Moonlight Publishers, Oxford University Press, Safaricom and Zong, as well as UNICEF and government agencies in Kenya, Pakistan, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Eneza Education has also been part of the inaugural cohort of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship through its Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning.

For additional information, please contact Mahboob Mahmood, CEO, Knowledge Platform, at mmahmood@knowledgeplatform.com, or Wambura Kimunyu, Chief Growth Officer, Knowledge Platform, at wambura@knowledgeplatform.com.

Transforming Education: The Impact and Future of AI in EdTech

Peter Baraka

AI

#EnezaChat

Artificial Intelligence

edtech

Eneza Education

Impact

Shupavu291

TechForGood

In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a game-changer in various industries, and its influence on education is no exception. The integration of AI in Educational Technology (EdTech) ... Read More

In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a game-changer in various industries, and its influence on education is no exception.

The integration of AI in Educational Technology (EdTech) has revolutionized the way students learn, teachers instruct, and institutions operate. From personalized learning experiences to predictive analytics, AI has opened new avenues for enhancing education, and its potential for the future of learning is vast.

One of the most significant impacts of AI in education is its ability to personalize learning experiences. Through adaptive learning algorithms, AI can analyze students’ strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles to tailor educational content and pacing accordingly. This individualized approach not only caters to students’ diverse needs but also fosters greater engagement and understanding. With AI-powered platforms, students can receive real-time feedback, access personalized resources, and progress at their own pace, leading to improved learning outcomes.

Moreover, AI has transformed the role of educators from traditional lecturers to facilitators of learning. By automating routine tasks such as grading assignments and generating lesson plans, AI frees up teachers’ time to focus on more meaningful interactions with students. Additionally, AI-powered virtual assistants can provide instant support to both students and teachers, answering questions, offering guidance, and facilitating communication. This collaborative partnership between humans and AI not only enhances efficiency but also enriches the educational experience for all stakeholders.

Looking ahead, the future of education with AI holds even greater promise. As technology continues to evolve, AI is poised to play a pivotal role in addressing the challenges facing education, such as bridging the digital divide, increasing access to quality education, and preparing students for the demands of the future workforce. Through adaptive learning platforms, AI can provide personalized education to students worldwide, regardless of geographical location or socioeconomic status. Additionally, AI-powered tools can facilitate lifelong learning by offering personalized upskilling and reskilling opportunities tailored to individuals’ evolving needs and career aspirations.

Despite the undeniable benefits, some may hesitate to embrace AI in education due to concerns about job displacement and data privacy. However, it’s essential to recognize that AI is not meant to replace educators but to empower them. By leveraging AI to automate routine tasks and enhance teaching effectiveness, educators can focus on fostering critical thinking, creativity, and social-emotional skills—the qualities that set humans apart from machines.

Ultimately, embracing AI in education is not just about keeping pace with technological advancements; it’s about unlocking the full potential of every learner. By harnessing the power of AI to personalize learning, empower educators, and expand access to quality education, we can create a future where learning knows no bounds. As we navigate the ever-changing landscape of education, let us embrace AI as a catalyst for innovation, inclusion, and lifelong learning.

Empowering Education through Technology: A Transformation in Progress

Peter Baraka

Edtech Posts

#EnezaChat

Artificial Intelligence

edtech

education

Mobile Learning

After half a decade of immersing myself in the world of edtech, I have been a witness to the transformative force that technology holds in the realm of education. Its reach extends beyond classroom walls, touching the lives of students, educators, and parents, enabling us to redefine our educational aims and the means to achieve them.

Recall the unforeseen upheaval caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The world stood still, with schools shuttered overnight, and a global student body left in limbo. Yet, those who could adapt to this sudden shift, using online platforms like Zoom and Google Meet or many edtech applications, continued their educational journey virtually.

The pandemic underscored a significant revelation – technology is not merely an adjunct to traditional education but a potent instrument capable of fostering a flexible, blended learning environment, primed for the future.

Another profound impact of technology in education lies in its ability to tailor learning experiences. It is accepted that learning rates vary from student to student. Thus, incorporating personalized learning pathways, courtesy of modern edtech solutions, levels the playing field for students who may require a bit more time to understand new concepts.

These customized learning tools empower students, offering a comforting alternative when classroom instruction feels overwhelming. For students apprehensive about raising questions in a traditional classroom setting, edtech allows them to interact with live tutors via chatbots in a pressure-free environment.

Moreover, technology has fundamentally transformed the roles of educators and learners. Gone are the days when teachers were the solitary source of knowledge, and students were merely passive recipients of information. Technology has redefined these dynamics, positioning teachers as facilitators rather than mere dispensers of knowledge.

Learners are now actively participating, using technology to gather and analyze information and engage in thoughtful discussions with their teachers. They are no longer solely dependent on their educators, but instead, create and navigate their learning journeys with technology as their guiding light.

Parents, too, play a critical role in their child’s educational journey. Active participation in their child’s learning fosters a confident, positive attitude towards education. Technology equips parents with the means to ease this active engagement, from supplying access to educational devices to tracking progress and offering reinforcement when necessary.

In essence, technology has appeared as an indomitable force, revolutionizing education and learning in countless ways. Whether it is learners discovering innovative learning methods, or teachers finding an efficient way to craft instructional material, technology’s potential in the educational sector is immeasurable.

As we bear witness to revolutionary edtech inventions every year, our optimism soars. Our collective aspiration is still – a future where quality education, an undeniable human right, is accessible and affordable for all.

Visit to access up to 15,000 practice questions to help you prepare for the KCPE examinations.

15,000 KCPE Practice Questions now available for candidates on Revise na Mwalimoo

Peter Baraka

Edtech Posts

Eneza Updates

Revision Papers

edtech

education

KCPE

onlinerevision

revisenamwalimoo

revisionpapers

TechForGood

We are excited to announce the launch of our new product Revise na Mwalimoo that will enable class 8 candidates to prepare for their KCPE by accessing 15,000 KCPE practice ... Read More

We are excited to announce the launch of our new product Revise na Mwalimoo that will enable class 8 candidates to prepare for their KCPE by accessing 15,000 KCPE practice questions.

Candidates are able to customize their revision by allowing them to filter the questions by subject, year and the topic of their choice. The platform also provides a real time marking scheme to questions completed by candidates on the platform.

Revise na Mwalimoo helps class 8 candidates practice for their KCPE exams by going through KCPE past papers between the years 2000 to 2020.

After creating a user account , the learner will be able to choose the year and the topics that they would like to study, access to past papers at their own preferred time and track their performance after every session completed on the platform.

Revise na Mwalimoo ensures ease of access to KCPE past papers from previous years so as to help candidates familiarize themselves with how the national exams are set. It is very affordable with students having a choice of either pay daily, monthly or yearly.

The pandemic disrupted school calendars heavily and the impacts are still being felt with no specific time being put on when schools and learners will recover from this. For example this year we will be having 4 national exams being undertaken and the school calendars are expected to return to normalcy in January 2023.

With that in mind, exam preparation will be key so as to help learners do well in their national exams. One can only imagine the kind of pressure that schools and learners have been under to complete the syllabus and start revising for exams.

Revise na Mwalimoo will ensure that candidates adequately prepare for their examinations by giving candidates the freedom to choose how, when and what to practice in order to give them confidence going into the exam room.

Sign up here and do not forget to share this link with your friend also!

A Look At 2021

Peter Baraka

Education in Kenya

Eneza Updates

edtech

education

Shupavu291

TechForGood

The year 2021 is finally coming to an end. And what a year has it been!

The Covid-19 pandemic hit the health, economic and social sectors really hard. And while the short term and long term effects of the pandemic are still uncertain in regards to education, what the pandemic has shown is that the current challenges hindering quality of education and improved learning outcomes need to be addressed urgently.

This year has indeed proven that incorporating technology in solving some of the perennial problems such as education will go a long way in improving both learning outcomes and create new learning pathways for all students across the educational spectrum.

During the course of the year we have been able to achieve a few milestones that we would like to highlight here as we look forward to reaching greater heights in the coming year.

As we close out the year, we would like to look at some of the things we achieved as we move towards achieving our mission of making 50 million learners smarter through mobile technology.

We have over 11.1 million users who have used our SMS platform across Kenya, Ghana, Côte d’ Ivoire and Rwanda with over 2.5 billion messages exchanged on the platform.

In Rwanda, Shupavu2910 reached over 328,000 by December. Having launched in October 2020 in the middle of the pandemic in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, we have seen great interest in students asking questions on Ask a Teacher with over 1.47 million questions asked. We also created a really cool TV show in partnership with Isonga media which you can watch here.

We partnered with World University Services Canada, Lutheran World Federation and Finn Church Aid to support refugee learners in Kakuma refugee camp and Kalobeyei Settlement scheme respectively. We also partnered with Nyanza Initiative for Girls’ Education & Empowerment to help mothers out of school due to early pregnancy get back to school and MRM to support underserved learners in Kibera.

It has been great learning from each of our partners and are hoping to partner with more organizations in 2022 to support more learners in their

We are also very proud to have won Edtech Company of the Year at the Kenya edtech Summit.

We sincerely thank all the parents, students, teachers, partners and the community at large for supporting us throughout the year!

From us at Team Awesome to you and your loved ones, we wish you Happy Holidays!

2021 Edtech Company Of The Year Award

Peter Baraka

Awards

Education in Kenya

Eneza Media

edtech

education

Impact

Shupavu291

Eneza Education scooped the 2021 Edtech Company of the Year award during the Kenya Edtech Summit and Awards held on the 27th of August 2021 at the Movenpick Hotel in ... Read More

Eneza Education scooped the 2021 Edtech Company of the Year award during the Kenya Edtech Summit and Awards held on the 27th of August 2021 at the Movenpick Hotel in Nairobi.

Kenya EdTech Summit & Awards is a premier leading annual professional development Summit and Awards that focuses on technology integration strategies and digital tools to transform education to enrich the lives of learners.

There were a total of 22 award categories ranging from Edtech company of the year, Edtech founder of the year, STEM solution of the year to Higher education technology leader among others.

We are proud to have been nominated in the same category as other leading edtech providers like eLimu, Moringa school, Angaza Elimu, iHub, Fuzu, Funke Science, and Longhorn.

The accolades that we have received continue to inspire us to keep working towards our mission of making 50 million Africans smarter through mobile technology.

A big thank you to everyone who voted for us. First, to deliver emergency support for health workers, first responders, and students. Second, to strengthen the diverse institutions that are the first line of defense against the social and economic aftermath of this disease.

Since the launch, we have seen a steady increase in the number of questions asked by learners on a daily basis. First, to deliver emergency support for health workers, first responders, and students. Second, to strengthen the diverse institutions that are the first line of defense against the social and economic aftermath of this disease.

Since the launch we have seen a steady increase in the number of questions asked by learners on a daily basis. Parents and students were left alone to look for alternative ways of learning and this was difficult given that nobody had experienced such a situation before.

In Africa, there has always been a challenge in terms of access to technology based learning and the pandemic made it even harder especially for learners coming from unprivileged backgrounds and those from rural areas to continue with their studies.

Students that were preparing for their KCPE exams had to find a way of revising for the exams without having access to the classroom and their teachers. Though there were efforts made by the government and relevant authorities to make sure that learning did not stop like radio, Tv and cloud based learning were only available to students that had access to these gadgets.

Shupavu291 helped many candidates to prepare for their national exams during the stay at home period and after schools were reopened early this year.

When the KCPE results were announced, the messages of gratitude we received have been quite inspiring.

Here are some of the messages we have received from learners that used Shupavu291 to prepare for the KCPE exams;

“I learned about Shupavu291 in 2020 when schools were closed from my cousin. When I told my mum about it, she bought me a phone to start reading on Shupavu291. I love the revision lessons because they were very helpful as they make you understand a topic before you start doing the questions. Then you would get explanations whether you were right or wrong that would make you understand better. I got 410/500 marks in this year’s KCPE and I am hoping to join a good National school either Alliance girls or Kenya High.I would like to be a Neurosurgeon when I grow up.” Blessing from Hill Springs Academy in Meru County told us.

“Shupavu291 helped me prepare for my exams and was able to score 348/500 marks in KCPE. I did not have access to any revision books or textbooks but through Shupavu291, I was able to access past papers, revision lessons and would even ask the Shupavu291 teachers difficult questions and they would respond. The revision lessons were really helpful because I used to write them down in my notebook and read them later. I used to read everyday after school from 8PM to 10PM. They have very nice explanations that are easy to understand. At times I would ask a question in class and the teacher would tell me to wait or see them later in the staffroom because they did not have the answer. But on Shupavu291, you can ask a question and get your response in minutes. I am very grateful to Shupavu291 and may you continue helping others.” Charles from Rachilo Primary School in Kisumu County

How Blended Learning Will Accelerate Access to Quality Education

Peter Baraka

Opinion

Uncategorized

edtech

education

enezaeducation

mlearning

Shupavu291

School closures over the past months have exposed how countries in developing economies have a long way to go in terms of providing quality education to their students outside of ... Read More

School closures over the past months have exposed how countries in developing economies have a long way to go in terms of providing quality education to their students outside of a classroom setting.

Learners have found it difficult to continue with their education while at home. Why? Lack of access to revision materials, loss of learning interest, distractions that come with internet access and lack of proper follow up by parents/ guardians while students are home.

With partial learning resuming for learners in class 8 and form 4 in Kenya, there needs to be a structured and clear way of helping students who have been out of school for the major part of the year get back to where they had left before the pandemic hit the country.

Blended learning which involves the use of online learning and traditional classroom methods can go a long way in helping students to catch up with their studies.

This mode of learning reinforces the aspect of personalized learning by combining the best aspects of in-person teaching with technology-based e-learning methods. Learners are able to work at their own pace, thus understanding everything before moving on to the next lesson.

Learners are also able to get support anytime anywhere and this makes it easy for them to continue learning without disruptions.

It is important to note that blended learning does not aim to replace traditional teaching methods but to supplement it. Blended learning is complementary and creates an integrated learning experience for learners to succeed.

Therefore it is crucial for all parties involved to come together and formulate new learning policies to help millions of learners that have been affected by Covid19. Blended learning is one of the new methods that will go a long way to getting our students back on track.
